What is the Obagi Blue Peel?
The Obagi Blue Peel is an accompanying treatment
with the Obagi Skin Health Restoration System. It is designed
to significantly improve the appearance and health of your skin.
It is a specially formulated peel that allows your doctor to monitor
the appropriate depth to effectively remove the thin surface layers
of aged and damaged skin from the face or other parts of the body
such as the neck, chest, hands, back, arms and legs. These dead
skin cells are then replaced by healthier ones, allowing the skin’s
own clarity and tightness to resurface. It is great for collagen
and elastin regeneration, as well as removal of hyperpigmented
lesions and improvement of wrinkles and acne scars.
What does the procedure consist of?
Consultation with a physician is required prior
to use due to prescription medicine contained in the OBAGI Blue
Peel. The Blue Peel treatment is to be performed by the doctor
in order to accurately determine the intensity of medicine to
be applied.
The Blue Peel is a quick, relatively simple and
tolerable procedure. In most cases, it does not require sedation.
The Blue Peel procedure take around 20–30 minutes, depending
on the number of coats necessary to achieve best results according
to your doctor. You will experience a moderate burning sensation
that lasts for two to three minutes (an electric fan may be used
to minimize the sensation). Immediately after the procedure, a
bluish tint remains on your skin, which will usually wash off
within 12 to 24 hours. After the patient’s skin has peeled
off, the Obagi System is resumed and the patient is instructed
on its application.
How long is the recovery period?
After the procedure, you will experience slight
swelling, and your skin will begin to peel within 2 to 3 days.
This peeling will continue over the next several days and should
heal in an average of 7 to 10 days.
It is advisable to cancel any social engagements
during the first week after the procedure. The patient will have
a blue skin tone during the first few days, followed by the dramatic
peeling of the face as it sheds the old layers of the skin to
several new, young and supple skin underneath.
