5 Things NOT to Do If You’re Getting Laser Hair Removal

Just like most women out there, we’ve explored different ways to remove unwanted hair on our bodies: plucking stray eyebrow hairs, shaving our armpits, using depilatory cream on our legs, or going to a waxing salon before an upcoming beach trip. Whatever method we’ve tried or stuck with, one thing remains true: the hair always grows back. If we’re so keen on keeping our legs and armpits hair-free, is laser hair removal the answer?
Laser hair removal is a treatment that uses light to target the pigment in individual hairs. The heat emitted by the light destroys hair follicle, preventing hair from growing back. Sounds promising, right? But before booking an online appointment, let’s take a look at a number of facts to consider:
Some hairs may be in the ‘resting phase’ during your current session, so the laser won’t be able to detect it, and you’ll notice hair growth a few days later. Each person’s hair type and growth cycle is unique, which is why some have thicker, darker strands…and some people grow their hair faster than others.
Some hair follicles may only be damaged in the process and not fully destroyed, which allows hair to grow back. But, it will be lighter and less noticeable. Any hair regrowth after sessions is usually shaved, because it allows the hair to grow back thicker, making it easier for the laser to detect.

If you have good pain tolerance and a few days to spare to deal with bit of redness or swelling, try Light Sheer, a treatment specifically designed for hair removal and considered the “gold standard” in Diode laser or CoolGlide Laser, especially if you have a darker complexion or if you just want to see results in just one session. If you prefer the pain-free route, Harmony SHR is your best bet—results can be seen around your third session.
While it is possible to eliminate *all* of the hair, it really depends on the type of hair you have and your body’s ability to grow it back. According to Dr. Belo, it generally lasts for about 20 years before you need to go back and have another couple of sessions.
So which hair removal treatment is for you? Trust no one but Belo to help you kickstart your hair-free journey.
