Can You Really Laser Away the Fat Under Your Eyes?

By Ysabel Vitangcol on November 15, 2020

It’s been eight months since the country was placed under quarantine due to COVID-19. For most of us, our current situation introduced new levels of stress we didn’t even think were possible. In fact, if you’ve been having trouble sleeping, know that you are not alone. But these sleepless nights are taking its toll on our bodies and after eight long months, it might be starting to manifest on our face.

As we age, the skin and muscles supporting our eyelids tend to weaken and excess fat may gather around the eyes causing it to droop or sag, which we call eyebags. But this condition can also be aggravated by poor sleeping patterns and general lack of sleep.

What you need to know about eyebags

According to the Mayo Clinic, eyebags are more than just a “beauty” concern. “Besides making you look older, severely sagging skin around your eyes can reduce your side vision (peripheral vision), especially the upper and outer parts of your field of vision.”

If you’ve been noticing more puffiness under or around the eyes and it’s starting to bother you, you might want to consider Laser Blepharoplasty. Depending on your concerns, this procedure can help lift up drooping eyelids, remove eyebags, and even give you an “eye slit” (which is a popular procedure for Asian patients). This out-patient procedure tightens the skin around the eye area in a non-invasive way. Yes, no knives or scalpels needed! At the Belo Medical Group, our experts use a carbon dioxide laser instead of scalpels, in order to remove the fat deposits around the eyes and get rid of eyebags and tighten the skin around the eye area. This option is perfect if you’re anxious about getting stuff done to your eyes, especially if it involves sharp objects.

Since lasers make almost microscopic incisions, the post-surgery recovery period is much shorter. There’s very minimal swelling or bruising on the first week but usually mellows down once the fine sutures are removed five to seven days after the procedure. It’s an out-patient procedure, but patients can choose to stay in our facilities overnight.

Laser Blepharoplasty (upper or lower) starts at ₱50,000 depending on the extent of work required per patient. To book your pre-surgery appointment, call 8819-BELO.

Please note that prices may change without prior notice and the final price will be based on the doctor’s quotation upon consultation.
