Body Contouring vs. 360° Liposuction: Everything You Need to Know

By Ysabel Vitangcol on September 30, 2024

Achieving your desired body shape is easier today thanks to advanced aesthetic procedures like body contouring and 360° Liposuction. These two treatments, though targeting fat reduction, differ significantly in their techniques, recovery time, and results.

What is Body Contouring?

Body contouring refers to non-invasive or minimally invasive procedures designed to sculpt the body by reducing fat, tightening skin, and enhancing muscle tone. Technologies such as radiofrequency (RF) and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) are often used in body contouring treatments. These methods destroy fat cells without the need for incisions or anesthesia.

Those who opt to do Body Contouring treatments can expect to have minimal downtime. However, this may also mean returning for (multiple) sessions to achieve results, depending on the doctor’s recommendation. Some body contouring treatments in Belo include Exilis, iWave, Onda Coolwaves and more.

What is 360° Liposuction?

360° Liposuction is a comprehensive surgical procedure that removes fat from the entire circumference of the midsection—front, back, and sides—giving a 360-degree sculpted look. This technique is ideal for patients who want more dramatic and immediate results.

Patients who prefer to do 360° Liposuction can expect longer downtime/recovery time (compared to body contouring treatments). There’s only one session needed! But DO take note that losing all the unwanted fat from 360° Liposuction does NOT guarantee that the patient may retain the achieved result in the long run. One session is what it takes to get closer to the patient’s body goals, but exercise and proper diet will help prolong these!

Is it painful? What is recovery like?

Body Contouring treatments are typically painless. Though patients can experience redness or swelling, it eventually subsides quickly. You can resume most daily activities immediately after each session.

For 360° Liposuction, as a surgical procedure, pain is managed with anesthesia during the surgery. Worry not – there are pain medications your surgeon will prescribe during recovery. Recovery includes swelling, bruising, and downtime of 1-2 weeks, with a full recovery taking up to several months.

How long until I see the results?

For Body Contouring, results are gradual and can take several weeks or months, depending on the number of sessions recommended by your doctor. On the other hand, 360° Liposuction offers more drastic results. These are noticeable almost immediately after swelling subsides, usually within a few weeks.

What treatment is right for me?

If you’re close to your ideal weight but struggling with stubborn fat that doesn’t respond to diet or exercise, body contouring may be your best option. However, if you’re looking for more dramatic fat removal and body sculpting, especially around the midsection, 360° liposuction might be more appropriate! Both treatments can yield great results depending on your body goals, lifestyle, and how much downtime you can accommodate. Consulting with a Belo doctor can help you determine the best option based on your needs.
