BTS’ Secrets for Clear, Glowing Skin—and How You Can Try Them

By Ysabel Vitangcol on November 9, 2020

It was in June 2017, the day a K-pop group took home the prize for Top Social Artist at the Billboard Music Awards, that BTS became more than just an Asian sensation. That award was their first significant mark on a Western populace that was just getting to know the many imports of Korean culture—from entertainment to food to skincare. Fast-forward to 2020, and everyone and their mother is at least vaguely familiar with the boy group, thanks to their hit song “Dynamite,” which made them the first all-South Korean act to top the Billboard Hot 100.

But more than their impossibly-synchronized dance moves and their ability to produce earworm after earworm, one thing BTS is known for is their flawless skin. Back when they were still on a high from their Top Social Artist win, BTS sat down with Allure to share their skincare secrets. Here’s how you can copy them and make them a part of your routine.

Jung Hoseok (J-Hope) and Jeon Jungkook

J-Hope and Jungkook shared that they both use toner and face cream in the morning. Pretty simple routine, right? Dr. Belo agrees with simplicity, citing that you actually don’t need dozens of products to have an efficient skincare routine. For Dr. Belo, it’s important to cleanse, tone, and use a serum (in the morning, best to use Vitamin C). So the boys are on point!

Here’s another good-boy habit from J-Hope: “I try to go to the dermatologist when I have some free time after work.” Woo-hoo! It’s important to squeeze in trips to your skin doctor whenever you can. Once a month is ideal!

Kim Namjoon (RM)

When asked if they consider skincare to be a form of self-care, the group’s charismatic leader said yes. “I totally agree. My favorite brand…has a variety of sheet masks you can choose from after a long day of work,” he shared.

Dr. Belo echoed this in a Facebook Live session with Grace Lee and Ryan Bang. She couldn’t stop raving about the FILLMED® Hyaluronic Youth Mask. “Oiliness is next to ugliness, right? But we want water. ‘Pag nakita niyo ‘yung mga bata, ang ganda ng skin nila. Hindi sila oily. Marami silang water sa mukha. So ‘yung hyaluronic acid, may mask na from Paris that soaks your face in hyaluronic acid. This then absorbs 1000 times its weight in water, so sobrang hydrated ‘yung face.” Safe to say sheet masks are both BTS- and Belo-approved!

Park Jimin

Jimin mentioned that he “tries to clear his mind” by cleaning his face after performances. Slow clap! Cleansing is the one step you should never skip, even when you’re dead tired. And if Jimin can find the time to do it after an exhausting performance, so can you! There are cleansers for every skin type, so be sure to consult with a Belo MD about which one is the best for you.

The group’s resident mochi also shared that on long plane rides, he “tries to drink as much water as possible.” Dr. Belo agrees, saying it’s still “the cheapest and best way to keep your body healthy” in a 2018 interview with Pep.ph.

Kim Taehyung (V)

V got honest in his Allure interview, admitting that “I’m worried about my skin having lack of elasticity. How can I prevent this?” If you’re worried about this too, Belo has so. Many. Options. So don’t you worry! From more affordable options like Exilis and Skin Reboot, to procedures with long-term results like Thermage FLX and Skin Genius, there’s a skin-tightening treatment for every budget.

Min Yoongi (Suga)

OK, this one has us thrown for a loop. When asked about any bad skincare habits, Yoongi replied: “My bad habit is that I don’t take care of my skin.” But—but how? His skin is just as perfect as everybody else’s in the group. Maybe Suga’s just being secretive. We refuse to believe he doesn’t take care of his skin, even a little!

Kim Seokjin

Allure referred to this BTS FESTA video from 2017, where Jin says, “If you behave young, your face becomes young, too.” And we completely agree—youth is all about the mindset. If you feel young, you’ll be more likely to take care of yourself in order to preserve your youthfulness. As the adage goes, age is just a number.

So, to summarize: cleanse, use sheet masks, have a simple routine, try a skin-tightening treatment, and exude youth from the inside out. Easy-peasy, right? By being consistent with your routine and keeping up good habits, you’ll be sporting Bangtan-level glass skin in no time.
