I’m one who definitely loves wearing sleeveless tops –  I mean, with the all-year-round heat in the Philippines, I just can’t resist it (though I’m sure many Pinays can agree with me!). But one thing that gets me insecure about my armpits are the unwanted hair and discolouration. I’ve been an athlete almost my whole life, so an anti-perspirant deodorant is a must for me, but unfortunately, it’s been darkening my armpits. I decided to try out Belo’s Splendor X treatment, a hair removal laser procedure that not only removes the pesky hair but also helps brighten and even out skin tone!

How It Started

I’ve done a laser hair removal procedure around a decade ago, back when I was in high school. Unfortunately, there are still some small, stubby AND thin hairs that grow that I end up still plucking over the years. The machine used back then was the standard, Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) laser hair removal machine.

I first had my consultation with Dr. Nicole Mondragon of Belo Mega Atrium to which she told me that the Splendor X treatment will help diminish the growth.

“Splendor X uses laser technologies of Nd:YAG and Alexandrite for hair removal and also for a subsequent whitening effect, so it’s also good for brightening your underarms,” Dr. Mondragon said. “Usually, around every session, you can expect a 20% reduction in hair growth, so it takes about 8-10 sessions for permanent hair reduction.”

My past experience with IPL over a decade ago had a small discomfort;I felt a tinge of the heat sensation when zapped. I wasn’t sure what to expect with Splendor X since this was a more developed machine. Dr. Mondragon briefed me that this, too, would have  a small discomfort that felt like a small rubber band whip, but nothing that would sting – plus the cold air blowing from Splendor X machine would run throughout the entire process, so it can easily relieve the targeted area. I was excited and ready!

How It Went

The procedure actually flew by so quickly – I believe it was around 5 minutes per underarm, so 10 minutes total. Because it was a laser-lighted treatment, I had to wear protective, tinted goggles to protect my eyes. And yes, I felt that small whip, but it wasn’t uncomfortable at all. 

Since Dr. Mondragon mentioned brightening underarms, in case you were wondering, the light beams from Splendor X are absorbed by the melanin in this area, resulting in the eventual brightening over time.

How It’s Going

It’s been two months since my treatment and it’s safe to say it went well! There has been zero hair growth thus far. I was told to not pluck in case unwanted hair eventually pops up as this causes chicken skin, and to use the shaver only when needed.

Dr. Mondragon prescribed the Belo Tyrosinase Inhibitor Cream that contains powerful brightening ingredients to help lighten my underarms overtime, a product that has been a part of my general skincare routine for a while now.
