This Quick Treatment Uses Microneedles to Destroy Your Oil Glands

By Chandra Pepino For Belo Medical Group on November 28, 2020

Everybody knows that pimples form because our pores become clogged with oil and debris, resulting in an “infection” in the form of a swollen (and sometimes pus-filled) bump. And we can stick on pimple patches and get Kenacort acne injections all we want, but if we don’t treat acne from the source, then those pimples will keep on coming back. What if we told you there was a machine that could destroy your oil glands, resulting in overall clearer and healthier skin? Here’s everything you need to know about the AGNES treatment.

How does Belo AGNES work?

At the 2019 Cosmo BeautyCon, Dr. Vicki Belo explained what AGNES is—and how it works. “So there’s a machine for that, we actually burn the [sac] so that no oil can accumulate there anymore. It’s called Agnes. It’s especially for the chin, it’s also for the oiliness, so you’re less oily [and] get fewer pimples,” she explained.

AGNES is a radiofrequency-based medical device, which means it can actually also be used to treat skin laxity and wrinkles. But since our focus here is acne, it’s worth noting that AGNES comes with “different types and unique [designs] of micro-insulated needles, depending on the user application,” says the AGNES official website. “Each type of micro-insulated needle has a different number of pins and length of insulation on the tip (electrode), which will [be inserted] into the target tissues.”

No sebaceous glands, no acne. By destroying the glands that produce oil, you can enjoy clear skin from the get-go—no band-aid solutions necessary.

What is the procedure like?

The treatment starts with microneedling, where your Belo aesthetician will directly target oil glands and pores, whether there are pimples in the area or not. This will take up the bulk of the procedure. Finally, a radiofrequency treatment with gel is done to help stimulate collagen and skin cell growth in the area.

Is it painful? How is the downtime?

“The problem though is downtime, and it’s a little painful,” Dr. Belo said. Since the procedure involves microneedles, you can expect some measure of pain, depending on your tolerance level. You will walk out of the treatment room with some redness and swelling. The downtime can take 3-5 days. However, Dr. Belo assures everyone that the treatment is “worth it.” And we agree—just look at these results:

For this patient, AGNES was able to target skin texture and wrinkles as well!

(Disclaimer: Please note that the results above are not of Belo patients; however, the results were achieved with the AGNES machine.)

So if you’re tired of temporary solutions that don’t really fix the problem at its source, then Belo AGNES just might be the treatment for you. Let’s zap those oil glands and bring you closer to clear skin before 2020 ends!
