Yes, Fillers Can Be For People in Their 20s, Too

By Ysabel Vitangcol on February 25, 2021

Ever wondered why young women choose to get fillers? It’s a commonly held belief that dermal fillers are only for people with mature skin, as fillers are known to tighten and contour the sagging or loose skin that comes with age. So really, you should only think about getting it once sagginess becomes an issue at 50, right? Au contraire, Belo Beauties! Fillers are for people of all ages, genders, and lifestyles. Here’s why:

  1. There are different kinds of fillers for different purposes.

Dermal fillers aren’t a one-size-fits-all kind of deal. While silicone- and foil-based fillers are the most “traditional” types of fillers, cosmetic technology has already progressed beyond that and have since developed alternatives such as hyaluronic acid fillers, which Belo uses in our Juvéderm Voluma fillers. Hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, which makes the skin cells plump up and your face look tauter. HA fillers also offer more variety, depending on the area where it’s applied. Softer fillers can be used for your lips to make them appear naturally lush, compared to the fillers that can be used to contour your jawline, cheeks, and chin.

2. Our skin loses elastin, hyaluronic acid, and collagen as we grow older.

It’s a sad fact, but our skin was at its best when we were babies! As we grow older, the skin takes a long time to replenish its elastin, hyaluronic acid, and collagen stores, which is responsible for maintaining its fresh, lifted, and youthful appearance. This slowing down happens as early as your mid-20s when production slows down by 2% every year. This means signs of aging, like wrinkles and fine lines, start becoming more noticeable as early as the big 30.

3. It can make your face look slimmer with the right technique.

Another common misconception about fillers is that it makes your face look bigger or rounder. While dermal fillers *can* make your face plumper, it’s all about the application technique. Injecting the right amount of filler in the right area is key to achieving a slimmer face. Dr. Belo demonstrated the difference fillers make to lift up loose skin along the jawline in this IGTV video:

4. It’s a good alternative to heat-based contouring treatments.

In the same video, Dr. Belo said that she didn’t want to expose her skin to heat from skin-tightening treatments like the Thermage FLX or Skin Genius. If you feel the same, then dermal fillers achieve the same effect of a more lifted and sculpted face.

5. It’s a semi-permanent process.

Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by our bodies, so when you introduce it topically or through injectables, the body recognizes it as its own and assimilates quickly. While the results from HA fillers are immediately visible, hyaluronic fillers will be naturally broken down by our bodies in eight to 12 months. It’s completely safe and only requires some minor commitment!
