Do’s and Don’t’s After Breast Reduction Treatment

By Ysabel Vitangcol on September 1, 2018

Getting a breast reduction procedure, according to Belo Medical Group’s Dr. Caparas, is inclusive of both a breast lift and a reduction. He says, “There’s no limit to how many times you can get a breast reduction. It depends on the person, if there’s been weight gain or sagging, then you can get another one.” What do you do and what do you avoid doing after breast reduction treatment?

Do’s After Breast Reduction Treatment

Do give yourself time to heal. Recuperation time depends, but it takes at least a week. With all surgical procedures, there will be swelling—for this procedure, it will take at least 2 to 3 months.

Do mind your weight. According to Dr. Caparas, one of the main reasons on why patients undergo breast reduction is due to back or shoulder pain due to the heavy load, so to speak. Since breasts are made primarily of fat, it is prone to getting bigger, depending on your weight.

Do visit and stay in touch with your doctor. Contact your doctor if you feel any discomfort or anything out of the ordinary, like excessive swelling or pain in the area of your stitches.

Don’t’s After Breast Reduction Treatment

Don’t exercise or any strenuous activity. All that stretching, running, or big movements won’t let your stitches heal.

Don’t panic. Those scars you see will fade over time, and even if they won’t disappear completely, barely-there scars are much better to deal with than constant back or shoulder pain.

Don’t breastfeed. Dr. Caparas advises that before undergoing a breast reduction procedure, you must be finished with breastfeeding already, since the procedure will compromise it.
