4. Modern Love

Like most of y’all, I am obsessed with romance novels. They’re my favorite genre. I started listening to the Modern Love podcast awhile ago, which is compiled of stories selected for the NYT column and read by famous celebs, as a way to break up my true crime listening. There’s really only so much a normal person should listen to stories about murders. This podcast was a good break from that. I then loved the adaptation on Prime, and finally picked up the book that contains many of the actual essays themselves. . These stories are about love. Love of oneself, of others, of family, of friends. My favorite one is called “How Bibliophiles Flirt” which had to be the most relatable and also have one of the sweetest aspects to it. I totally recommend listening to it; not to spoil it, but it involved some great advice from the writer about reading and collecting books without reading them. And while you’re listening, take a listen to “He’s Playing Our Song,” “The Doorman,” and “Your Dog Has Seen Me Naked,” all of which also are part of my list of favorites. . I generally don’t read essays or short stories, but these are an exception, and I love how these writers invite us into a very personal aspect into their lives. . Do you listen or read Modern Love? What is your favorite essay? . . . #newbookstagram #newbookstagrammer #bookaholic #bookish #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #books #essays #modernlovepodcast #modernlove #unitedbyromcoms

For over a decade, the New York TimesModern Love section has “given readers a glimpse into the complicated love lives of real people.” Its podcast is equally kilig-inducing, sometimes poignant and even heartbreaking—but the stories are unapologetically human. Perfect for those lazy Saturday nights.

“The McElroy brothers are not experts, and their advice should never be followed,” chirps the podcast’s hilarious intro. But their lack of expertise is precisely what makes them experts at navigating their listeners’ most mundane of problems. Who knew a trio of brothers from Huntington, West Virginia could be so funny?
