Does Trimming Your Hair Really Make It Grow Faster?

By Ysabel Vitangcol on February 27, 2021

Have you noticed any significant growth to your hair over the past few months? Since hair salons were temporarily closed for a while, some people chose to let their hair grow wild or give themselves a DIY haircut. Whichever camp you belong to, you may have noticed that hasn’t grown longer as much as you’d expect after more than three months. Hair fall is also a major concern. According to the American Association of Dermatology, people lose around 50 to 100 hair strands a day. So what can you do to make it grow faster? Here are some tried-and-true tricks to boost your hair growth.

1.     Trim your hair frequently.

It’s a commonly held belief that you should trim your hair frequently to promote growth. While there’s some truth to this belief, we don’t necessarily recommend snipping it every week. Instead, you must only trim your split ends. Split ends can run up to halfway the hair fiber, making it prone to breakage. While this doesn’t necessarily make your hair grow faster, it does keep the hair fiber intact, allowing you to maintain the length for a longer duration. Snipping off these loose ends before it gets bigger will be helpful in having a healthier and stronger mane.

2.     Pamper your scalp.

Your crowning glory isn’t just about taking care of the hair shaft—it’s taking care of everything, from roots to ends. An unhealthy scalp makes it a weak foundation for your tresses, which makes you more prone to hair loss. Start by cleansing with a good shampoo like the Pelo Baum Hair Revitalizing Shampoo, and then lock in moisture with the Pelo Baum Hair Revitalizing Conditioner. Using a scalp solution like the Pelo Baum Hair Revitalizing Solution soaks the hair follicles with nourishing active ingredients will do wonders for reviving dull-looking hair strands and preventing hair loss.

3.     Use the right hair care products.

Different hair types require different kinds of hair care. Shampoos are made with surfactants or cleansers that contain molecules that both attract oils (lipophilic) and water (hydrophilic). Depending on the type of surfactant in a shampoo, it determines how effectively sebum and dirt are removed from the scalp. For example, oily scalps require more sebum-attracting molecules to be thoroughly cleansed while dyed hair needs less.

4.     Eat a well-balanced diet.

Haircare is a holistic process! While it’s tempting (and more immediately convenient) to just stop at shampoo and conditioner alone, your hair needs nutrients like iron and protein that comes with eating the right kinds and amount of food. After all, malnutrition is still the leading cause of hair loss, ICYDK.

As you can see, there are a lot of ways to encourage your hair to grow faster or maintain its current length, at the very least. You just need to take the time every day to do so. Afterwards, you’re rewarded with healthy, shiny, and strong hair that everyone will envy.
