As you navigate the myriad of skincare treatments available, you may find yourself asking, “Is Thermage FLX for me?” Check out if you’re a right candidate for the gold standard of skin tightening!
Who is an ideal Thermage FLX patient?
Before jumping into any cosmetic procedure, it’s crucial to assess your specific skin concerns and goals. Here are some factors to consider:
- Skin Laxity. Do you notice sagging skin around your eyes, jawline, or neck? If your primary concern is skin laxity, you might consider Thermage FLX for its skin-tightening properties.
- Wrinkles and Fine Lines. If you’re struggling with wrinkles and fine lines, particularly around the eyes (crow’s feet) and mouth (nasolabial folds), Thermage FLX can help smooth out these areas by stimulating collagen production.
- Skin Texture and Tone. While Thermage FLX primarily targets skin laxity and wrinkles, it can also improve skin texture and tone to some extent. However, if uneven skin tone or pigmentation is a significant concern, other treatments like chemical peels or laser resurfacing might be more effective.
- Desire for Non-Invasive Treatment. If you prefer a non-surgical option with minimal downtime, Thermage FLX fits the bill. It’s a single-session treatment that requires no anesthesia or recovery time, allowing you to return to your daily activities almost immediately.
- Overall Skin Health. Your general skin condition plays a role in the effectiveness of Thermage FLX. Those with relatively healthy skin tend to see better results, as the treatment relies on stimulating the body’s natural collagen production.
Who is Thermage FLX not recommended for?
Thermage FLX may not be for everyone. Here’s what you need to know, according to Dr. JP Jalandoni, Associate Physician of Belo Greenbelt:
- If the patient has metal implants or pacemakers. “The only absolute contraindication, really, is the metal implant along the track of the return pad and tip like spinal implants,” shares Dr. Jalandoni. “The radio frequency travels through the body from the return pad to the tip. If the RF hits those it might cause problems.”
- If the patient has Thyroid conditions. Dr. Jalandoni shares that while it’s not a contraindication, the delivered radio frequency on the neck “might affect the thyroid hormones”. He clarified, however, that this still depends on the doctor’s assessment.
- If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding. This is deem this risky, as babies absorb radio waves at a higher rate than adults!
- Irritated skin, open wounds. Though no specific skin types are discouraged to try Thermage FLX, Dr. Jalandoni shares that damaged skin can have its complications, also due to the heat sensation delivered by the RF device. “The kind where the skin is really red and damaged like active rash or sunburn,” he said.
What can Thermage FLX do?
This treatment is designed to smooth, tighten, and contour the skin. “It uses monopolar radio frequency energy to deliver radio frequency energy or heat down deep to the dermis,” Dr Jalandoni shared. Thermage FLX heats the underlying tissue, which stimulates collagen production and leads to tighter, more youthful-looking skin.
Key benefits of Thermage FLX include:
- Results are immediate and long-term. Some tightening effects are visible right after the treatment, with continued improvement over the next six months as new collagen forms.
- It’s done only once a year! Unlike some other treatments that require multiple sessions, Thermage FLX typically involves just one session.
- Downtime is minimal. Post-treatment, you might experience some redness or swelling, but these side effects are usually mild and temporary. “A little bit of redness is the most common side effect after the procedure. That usually goes away within a few hours up to a day or so,” Dr. Jalandoni said. “Sometimes, say, patients who have pigments like dark marks around their face. They can experience some transient darkening of their pigments – so that’s something that you need to know in the future. But rest assured, here at Belo, we do take care of your skin so that we don’t reach that level!”
