Regine Velasquez: The Original Belo Baby Who Sparked a Legacy

It Started With a Thank You

Every great story begins with a simple moment—and for Dr. Vicki Belo and Asia’s Songbird, Regine Velasquez, it all began with gratitude. This dates way back in the 90s, when Regine was starting to make a name for herself as a singer.

 In August 1990, Dr. Belo opened her very first clinic at Medical Towers Makati. A modest 40sqm space that would become the birthplace of Belo’s legacy.

“You know, Regine is very important to me because she’s my first celebrity client,” Dr. Vicki recalls. “And she remembers my very first clinic that was only 40sqm.”

Regine laughs as she describes it. “I remember! You go in, and there’s a receptionist over here. And when you turn, that’s your office! And you have two doors with two facial beds and that was it! It was really a very small clinic.”

At that time, Regine was searching for a solution to her stubborn back acne. She had tried different doctors, but nothing worked. When Regine visited Dr. Belo, everything changed. “She did not charge! So I said to myself, I’m coming back here. But I was a bit shy, so I just started thanking her on TV. ‘Thank you Dr. Vicki Belo for curing my back!’”

And with those words, a phrase was born—one that would become iconic. “So that’s where ‘Thank you, Dr. Vicki Belo’ started,” Dra. Vicki smiles. “It was Regine who started it all.”

More Than Loyalty, It’s Trust

Beyond gratitude lay something far more enduring: trust.

When Dr. Belo asked why Regine had stayed with Belo after all these years, Regine’s answer was simple. She trusted her.

“It’s true! Because it’s a relationship. You are my doctor for my face, my beauty, my body. So it’s about trust. It’s not even about loyalty. For me, it’s about trust,” she responded.

Throughout the years, that trust has been tested and proven. Regine recalls turning 35 and suddenly experiencing unexpected breakouts. “I would brave it out, try all sorts of things, then go to you again. ‘Something’s happening! Something’s happening with my face!’”

Dr. Belo always had a solution ready, whether it was as simple as changing her shampoo to prevent hairline breakouts or prescribing the right skincare products to clear her skin within weeks.“So my trust is really there because you’re the one that can really cure me. So why would I go anywhere else if I already trust you?”

Even with new technologies, that trust has carried on. Regine lights up when talking about her favourite treatment: “You know, I really like Ulthera. Ulthera Prime! Dr. Guada [Santos-Capiz] told me, ‘You should try the new Ulthera Prime. It’s really good.’ So I said okay. The pain is tolerable because they put emla (numbing cream) anyway. And there’s no downtime! No downtime!”

Transformation

Who remembers Regine’s iconic line: “Only Belo Touches My Skin?”

Dr. Belo and Regine’s journey is more than just about skin, treatments, or even beauty. It’s about transformation and inspiration.

Regine recalls her role in Diva, a 2010 GMA musical series, where she played Melody, a character who wasn’t blessed with beauty until transformed by Dr. Vicki Belo (playing herself). “Your role was essential because you made her beautiful. And that’s really who you are in real life: someone who makes people feel beautiful,” Regine told Dr. Belo.

For Dr. Belo, the gratitude is mutual. “People say I’m a branding expert because I make celebrities thank me. But actually, it was you who started that! You said thank you without me knowing, and suddenly, I got so many patients and celebrities. So I owe it all to you.”

From a small 40sqm clinic to where Belo is today, the journey of Regine and Dra. Vicki mirrors Belo’s own story: one that started with a thank you, was built on trust, and continues to transform lives beyond the physical.
