Belo Beautiful Stories: From PBB to Primetime, Ryan Bang Finds Confidence Beyond the Camera

In 2005, the Philippines welcomed a ray of sunshine from South Korea: Ryan Bang. Since then, he’s become a beloved figure in Filipino entertainment, known for his infectious humor and heartfelt sincerity.

New Life, New Skin

After his parents’ separation, Hyun Sung Bang, also known as Ryan Bang, made his way to the sunny shores of the Philippines in 2005 to study English. Twenty years later, not only is he fluent in English – but ALSO in Filipino! But that’s another story.

Adjusting to the tropical climate and new environment, he faced unexpected skin challenges, including persistent acne. Ryan’s skin started to break out.

“My pimples kept appearing. It was really coming out, it’s probably because I’m not used to washing my face and hands.” he shares in Filipino. “So when I went home from outside, the bacteria probably stayed on my face.”

During high school, Ryan struggled  with severe acne—which he shared would “really come out”—  just before making his big break as a contestant on Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash 2010, where he eventually finished as runner-up.

Just as he was starting to become a rising celebrity after PBB, he confessed that he had to resort to wearing make-up whenever he had to leave the house just to cover up his breakouts. It bothered him so much that he self-pricked his active acne,  resulting in scarring that affected his confidence.

It was not until later on, under Belo’s care, that he learned how to take care of himself and his skin more.

Starting His Skincare Journey With a Bang

Ryan’s journey to clearer skin began at Belo TriNoma with Senior Physician Dr. Sheila Acosta.She recommended monthly facials featuring Retamax Cleaning,  a retinol-based treatment ideal for acne-prone skin that stimulates the production of new skin cells and treats acne marks. Committed to his skincare regimen,  Ryan admits that he would go to Belo “religiously” and finally  overcame detrimental habits such as touching his face and picking at pimples. As his skin improved, so did his confidence, visibly reflected in his vibrant presence as a host on ‘It’s Showtime!’.

“It’s such a great feeling when you take care of yourself and your skin,” he shared.

From a Korean teenager learning English to a celebrated host and comedian in Philippine showbiz, Ryan’s journey, marked by personal and professional growth, includes overcoming his acne struggles.

Now engaged to his non-showbiz girlfriend, Paola Huyong, Ryan credits Dr. Vicki Belo and Dr. Hayden Kho Jr. for helping him regain confidence through improved skin health.
