The Semaglutude Injection is used as a weight loss aid. It mimics the action of a GLP-1 hormone that is helpful in improving blood sugar constrol, increasing insulin secretion, reducing glucagon secretion and slowing gastric emptying, leading to weight management.
In addition to lowering blood sugar levels, Semaglutide has been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular illnesses.

a. Obesity/overweight conditions. Patients with a BMI over 30, or over 27 with health conditions such as hypertension and cardiovascular diseases, who need assistance with weight loss.
b. Individuals needing metabolic control. Patients that require a a combination therapy for weight loss and blood sugar control.
However, Semaglutide should NOT be used by patients who:
a. have a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
b. are pregnant or breastfeeding
Semaglutide is injected just under the skin, done once a week. The doses are tailored to the patient’s individual needs:
a. Initial Dosage. Treatment typically starts at 0.25 mg once, weekly to allow the body to adjust to the medication and reduce the risk of side effects.
b. Gradual Increase. After four weeks, the dose is usually increased to 0.5 mg per week, and, if necessary, it may be further increased to 1 mg per week.
The exact number will depend on the patient’s medical goals as well as the doctor’s recommendation. Since this is administered once a week, the treatment starts will lower doses, gradually increasing over time time based on tolerance and the patient’s bodily response to the treatment. Adjustments, however, can be made depending on this.
