1. It’s different from Botox

Both use needles to treat wrinkles and lines in the face. However, Botox and dermal fillers are actually very different from each other.

“Fillers are used to replenish fat or bone loss,” says Dr. Joey Muñoz, Senior Physician of Belo Greenbelt and a certified Allergan Aesthetics trainor. “It mimics the lift, fullness and support that the soft tissues or bone provides but are unfortunately gone due to different reasons such as ageing and weight loss.”

Fillers treat static lines, or visible lines that appear without movement.

Dr. Muñoz says that botox, on the other hand, softens dynamic lines or lines that appear upon movement. The upper half of the face, such as the forehead or crow’s feet, usually shows these.

2. It can enhance multiple features of the face

You’d be surprised to know the versatility of dermal fillers from the lips, nose, chin, cheeks, and jawline. Did you know that your skin loses up to 1.5% of its ability to produce collagen per year? This is where you start losing volume in these areas. Dermal fillers can be tailored to your unique aesthetic goals, whether you want to iron out laugh lines or add a touch of volume to your pout.

3. The downtime is very minimal

One of the perks of choosing dermal fillers over surgical procedures is the minimal downtime. While bruising and swelling can occur, they typically subside within a few days. This means you can get back to your regular activities without a prolonged recovery period! Whether you’re enhancing your features for a special occasion or just because you feel like it, dermal fillers won’t keep you sidelined for long!

4. They’re a good, quick fix

The results of fillers are seen immediately, improving and settling within 2-4 weeks. According to Dr. Muñoz, these can last from 9-18 months, depending on the injected area or the type of filler. They are also non-invasive. This makes them a popular option for most people to try to see if they are the right fit.

Although the results that you get from dermal fillers are different from what you would see from a surgical procedure, it’s a great alternative and anti-aging fix for those who are not yet ready to undergo an operation.

5. There is no “recommended” age to do Fillers

Unlike other procedures that require a certain age to try a treatment, Fillers do not have that. It’s still important to be evaluated by a doctor.  so they can determine the patient’s skin condition, as well as discussing goals and needs. “Injecting fillers is not actually age-related. It will still depend on the [skin] condition of the patient.”
