Beauty & Skincare Trends (2025): What to Watch Out For
We know why you clicked on this story, so we’re diving right in.
Ever heard of Thermiva? Long-time supporters of the Belo Medical Group might have an idea, but it might be new to some people. Our very own Dr. Vicki Belo best describes it in one sentence: “It’s really like Thermage for your face–Thermage for your vagina.”
Belo Thermiva is a pain-free, non-surgical reconstructive procedure that’s meant to rejuvenate your vagina by tightening the tissues. It heats up the vagina, like Thermage, and it causes contractions to tighten and lift up the vaginal floor. It’s perfect for women of a certain age or those who’ve had four or more children.
In a 7-minute interview with Cosmo.ph, Dr. Belo explains the science behind Thermiva as well as its benefits.
“First of all, it’s really non-surgical, that’s the best thing about it. [It’s for women who’ve had] two to three children or more,” Dr. Belo explains. “Thermiva is Thermilift for the vagina… Just like your face, it kinda sags, your vajayjay also does. Especially if you give birth, because can you imagine the head of this baby going through the birth canal and when it goes back, it’s not quite as tight as it used to be. So we need something to give us [a] tighter vagina, because the tighter the vagina, the more enjoyable it is for your husband or partner and you.”
Thermiva works on tightening the inside of the vagina as well as the outside to lessen the sagging skin on the labia minora and/or majora, which could happen after multiple childbirths.
“The other thing that happens as you get older is that you get dry…because your estrogen [level] is beginning to go down,” Dr. Belo pointed out, emphasizing the role of estrogen in our sex drive and keeping the vagina properly lubricated.
“So how does Thermiva work to make your vagina wet? When you do it, you encourage new glycosaminoglycans [and] hyaluronic acid. It’s an immediate effect because there’s transudation (or the slow escape of liquids from blood vessels through pores),” she explained.
But Thermiva is more than just having more fun in the boudoir. This procedure is also recommended for women who have been experiencing urinary incontinence (or having trouble controlling the urinary bladder especially when laughing, coughing, sneezing, or certain strenuous activities like working out or lifting heavy objects). Urinary incontinence could happen due to aging or when it’s stretched after giving birth. With the help of Belo Thermiva, the tissues of the vaginal floor are tightened, which also tightens the opening of the urinary bladder. Thermiva also encourages the long-term build up of collagen, which improves tissue elasticity and plays a major role in urinary continence.
Since it’s non-surgical and relatively quick (just 20 minutes to treat the vaginal canal and 20 minutes for the external procedure), Dr. Belo assures that patients can enjoy sex right after the procedure. “As soon as I remove my gloves, you can have sex na. You don’t have to wait,” she says with a smile, adding that the effects of the first session are instantaneous.
Dr. Belo emphasizes that the procedure is best for women who are in their 40’s or for those who’ve had four or more kids. For women below 30, you might want to consider having one session of Thermiva if you’ve had kids. For women between 30 to 40 years old, one session every six months is recommended. While women above 40 years old or have experienced multiple births, completing three sessions with one month intervals is recommended for best possible long-term results.
If you’re thinking of having the procedure, Dr. Belo suggests to “make sure you’re healthy [and] you don’t have any infections. We usually send you to your obstetrician or urologist to make sure everything is fine. No need for any clearance.”
Belo Thermiva starts at P50,000 per session, depending on the patient’s condition.
