How to Reconnect When You Feel Disconnected from Your Partner

By Ysabel Vitangcol on November 20, 2020

If you feel like you are starting to simply co-exist with your partner, then know that you are not alone. After 8 months of quarantine, many can surely relate that the pandemic has taken their romantic relationships to a whole new level, too. Some couples may not be used to being together almost 24/7 for too long during the stay-at-home order, while long-distance lovers may already have feelings of separation. But whether you are together or not, you can always do something to reconnect with your partner and revive your relationship.

Here are some simple things you can do to breathe life back into your love life:

Communicate. Communicate. Communicate.

Cliché, but this is one of the golden rules when it comes to relationships: Communicate with each other. Reconnecting with your partner will be a lot easier when you know the reason why your relationship went stale in the first place. Talk about it and address it together. When both of you learn to speak up and listen to each other, you will be amazed at how much this simple act can revive that lost connection.

Show and tell…your appreciation.

A little appreciation goes a long way. Acknowledge your partner’s efforts, and make sure that they know you appreciate them. A simple thank you when he or she cooks dinner for you, or a shoutout post just to show the world how lucky you are to have them. Nothing beats receiving sweet and sincere appreciation from the one you love! Take it from our newlyweds, Matteo Guidicelli and Sarah Geronimo.

Make time for each other.

When was the last time you had an actual romantic date? While still keeping safety in mind and a priority, you and your partner can do something different instead of your usual “Netflix and chill” night at home. After working hard throughout the week, we’re quite sure that you and your love deserve a weekend treat. You both earned it. Do something new or do something you haven’t done together in a while now. You can even improvise if you want. Saw how Dr. Vicki Belo arranged an outdoor “stargazing” session with Dr. Hayden Kho?

Travel back in time together.

Travelling is one of the quality time defaults for couples, but the pandemic made us cancel a lot of plans including that upcoming vacation with our special someone. Don’t fret, you and your boo will be able to travel once again when this is over. What you can do for now is relive those memories by looking at the photos together, talk about the best moments of the trip, or even post a throwback about it. Be creative about it. Why not post your very first trip together, like Lovi Poe did for her beau?

The pandemic may have taken its toll on all aspects of our well-being, but we can always do something about it. Always remember, you fell in love with that person once upon a time– and happily ever after is the plan!
