What Is a Nose Thread Lift? (Preparation, Recovery, and Aftercare Tips)

By Ysabel Vitangcol on June 21, 2023

One procedure that has gained popularity in recent years is the nose thread lift. This non-surgical treatment offers a subtle yet noticeable enhancement to the shape and contour of the nose, without the need for invasive surgery. Here’s what you can expect from it.

Preparation for a Nose Thread Lift

Before undergoing a nose thread lift, it is important to consult with a qualified medical professional who specializes in aesthetic procedures. During the consultation, the doctor will assess your suitability for the treatment and discuss your desired outcomes. They will also explain the procedure, including any potential risks or side effects.

It is advisable to disclose your medical history and any medications you are taking to ensure that the procedure is safe for you. Additionally, if you are prone to cold sores or have a history of keloid scarring, you should inform your doctor, as these factors may affect the treatment.

Recovery from a Nose Thread Lift

One of the main advantages of a nose thread lift is that it requires minimal downtime compared to traditional rhinoplasty surgery. The procedure itself usually takes around 30 minutes to an hour, and most patients can resume their daily activities immediately afterward. Though for some cases, we have some patients who try nose threads first so they have an idea on how their nose would look should they eventually decide to do a rhinoplasty.

It is common to experience some mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort around the treated area – these symptoms usually subside within a few days. Your doctor may provide you with pain medication or recommend over-the-counter pain relievers to manage any discomfort during the recovery period.

During the first few days following the procedure, it is crucial to avoid touching or putting pressure on the treated area. It is also recommended to sleep on your back with your head elevated to reduce swelling. If you wear glasses, you may need to switch to contact lenses temporarily to avoid putting pressure on the nose.

Aftercare Tips for a Nose Thread Lift

To ensure optimal results and minimize the risk of complications, it is essential to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your doctor. Here are some general aftercare tips for a nose thread lift:

  1. Keep the treated area clean: Gently cleanse the area with a mild cleanser as instructed by your doctor. Avoid harsh soaps or abrasive scrubs that may irritate the skin.
  2. Avoid strenuous activities: Refrain from engaging in intense physical activities or exercises that may increase blood flow to the face and potentially disrupt the threads.
  3. Protect your skin from the sun: Wear sunscreen with a high SPF and avoid direct sunlight as much as possible. Protecting your skin from the sun helps prevent pigmentation changes and promotes proper healing. You can find our recommendations here!
  4. Be mindful of facial movements: Avoid excessive facial expressions, such as laughing or smiling widely, as they can strain the treated area.

Follow up with your doctor: Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments to allow your doctor to monitor your progress and address any concerns.

What is the difference between nose threads and rhinoplasty?

While both nose thread lifts and rhinoplasty aim to enhance the appearance of the nose, they are different procedures with distinct benefits and considerations.

Nose thread lifts are non-surgical treatments that involve inserting dissolvable threads into the nose to lift and shape the tissues. This procedure is suitable for individuals who desire subtle changes to their nose, such as correcting a small bump or improving the nose’s overall contour. It offers quicker recovery, fewer risks, and less downtime compared to rhinoplasty. However, the results of a nose thread lift are temporary, typically lasting up to 12-18 months.

On the other hand, rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves reshaping and restructuring the nose. It is suitable for individuals seeking more significant changes, such as reducing the size of the nose or correcting breathing difficulties. Rhinoplasty requires anesthesia, involves incisions, and typically involves a longer recovery period compared to a nose thread lift. The results of rhinoplasty are long-lasting, with the final outcome becoming more apparent as the healing process progresses.

Of course, it is still best to ask for your doctor’s recommendation on what procedure to do from either of the two. When you’re ready to book your consultation, send us a message!
