What You Need To Know About Jovena

By Ysabel Vitangcol on May 16, 2023

The Belo-exclusive integrated treatment system is synonymous to giving your skin and muscles a “workout”. Here’s what you need to know.

It has two innovative technologies

An integrative system based on two energies, Belo Jovena uses two processes, RF Diathermocontraction®, and Fractional Plasma®. The former uses heat and electrical signals to cause facial muscle contractions beneficial for firming and toning facial muscles, while the latter uses plasma energy to resurface skin and promote cellular renewal, delving into deeper dermal issues like wrinkles and scars.

It’s a two in one treatment – it feels like “exercising” your face and renewing your skin at the same time!

Is Belo Jovena for me?

Suitable for all skin types, Belo Jovena is a non-invasive alternative to more aggressive procedures such as fractional CO2 laser for skin resurfacing.

“The treatment is best for patients who want skin rejuvenation, or smoother and finer skin texture,” according to Dr. Romina Abad-Cesa, Managing Physician of Belo Conrad. “It can be used for patients with acne and acne scars, sagging skin and droopy eyelids.”

For Belo Jovena, there are four kinds of applicators (hand piece). They are the following:

  • bQUAD – combines RF diathermy with muscle contractions, creating a “diathermic pulse” that you can physically see and feel during treatment,
  • plasmaROLL – ideal for large areas of the body, particularly to target superficial layers for micro-retraction,
  • plasmaTIP – ideal for pinpoint-precise delivery, making it perfect as a spot treatment for small but common skin issues (fine lines, scars, wrinkles, and more)
  • plasmaPRO – uses a selective applicator to create controlled damage to medium size areas or for benign lesions

However, a trained Belo physician must first examine the patient’s skin condition first to determine if resurfacing is needed and what type of applicator (hand piece) to use.

What’s the difference between fractional CO₂ Laser and Belo Jovena?

While both are similar treatments to address skin resurfacing and improve acne scars, according to Dr. Abad-Cesa, Jovena uses plasma energy to improve skin texture. Fractional CO2 Laser uses, simply, carbon dioxide, which has been proven to be a good and effective laser for skin resurfacing.

Both Jovena Fractional Plasma® and the Fractional CO2 laser have expected downtime for about a week due to scabbing, but if the patient does the Jovena Diathermocontraction® for muscle restoration, there is no downtime.

How fast do you see results?

“The patient will notice skin lifting after 4-6 sessions of Diathermocontraction® and skin texture improvement after 2-3 sessions of Plasma restore,” says Dr. Abad-Cesa.

Post-treatment maintenance will be prescribed by your Belo doctor, but Dr. Abad-Cesa advises to avoid direct and prolonged sun exposure for a few weeks.

“Patients are advised seven days of applying post-laser care creams to avoid complications. It’s also best that patients use topical medicines to continuously improve the skin post treatment.”
