8 Do’s and Don’ts After a Lip Filler Treatment

By Ysabel Vitangcol on May 8, 2024

Your road to luscious lips begins with us here in Belo – and we’re here to spill the steps to take after the treatment that will help maximize the results.

DO: Follow post-procedure instructions

Listening to your doctor will help you navigate through downtime, caring for your lips and helping these last longer.

DO: Keep the area clean

Apart from following your skincare and keeping your face clean, it’s equally important to take care of your lips through cleansing – mild soap and water can do! This is just to prevent infections!

DO: Stay hydrated

Lip fillers also have the capabilities of hydrating your lips. However, it’s important that YOU do the work too. Hydrating (especially this summer!) helps keep your lips moisturised and promotes healing.

Dr. Eloisa Buse, Senior Managing Physician of Belo Medical Plaza and a certified Allergan Aesthetics trainor, shares that while it helps keep lips wet, licking them isn’t recommended. “Our saliva has enzymes that make it drier,” she said. “To keep it glossy and wet, use a chapstick, lipbalm or Vaseline.”

DO: Be gentle

We know you can’t help but gigil your lips sometimes, but it needs as much gentle care as possible, especially immediately and a few days after your appointment. This is to avoid excessive pressure so the filler can settle on your lips properly.

DON’T: Try strenuous activities

Refrain from rigorous exercise or activities that can strain your lips – this may disrupt the healing process. Make your lips “rest” so that it can heal well!

DON’T: Smoke, drink alcohol or eat allergy-triggering food

We hate to break it to you – but it’s true! Just for the next 1-3 days, avoid alcohol consumption, smoking and eating allergy-triggering foods since tendencies are, they can hinder healing and increase complications. “The likes of crustaceans and food with shell on them – if you have a history of allergies, it can trigger even more swelling! The healing would take longer,” says certified Allergan Aesthetics trainor, Quality and Safety Manager of Belo Medical Group and Senior Physician at our TriNoma clinic, Dr. Sheila Magnaye – Acosta.

DON’T: Be exposed directly under the sun

It’s summer, and we know it’s tempting to be outside more often at this time of the year. Protecting your lips from direct sunlight helps prevent inflammation and damage to delicate skin.

DON’T: Overdo it

Prevent overfilling your lips and doing frequent touch-ups. If your lips are still not in the desired shape you expected, refilling is not the answer. You can wait by settling the fillers naturally (#TrustTheProcess!) or by bringing this up with your licensed physician.
