What are lip fillers?

Lip fillers, also known as dermal fillers or lip injections, are cosmetic procedures that involve injecting a gel-like substance into the lips to enhance their shape, volume, and structure. The most common type of filler used for lip augmentation is hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps maintain moisture and volume in the skin.

What is the procedure like?

Our lip filler injections are performed by our highly trained Belo doctors. During the procedure, a topical numbing cream (emla) may be applied to minimize discomfort. The filler is then injected into specific areas of the lips using a fine needle. The entire process usually takes around 15 to 30 minutes, and you can return to your normal activities immediately afterward!

Do lip fillers have downtime?

The patient may experience some swelling, bruising, or redness around the injection sites. These side effects are temporary and typically subside within a few days to a week. In the meantime, you can use ice packs and over-the-counter pain relievers to help alleviate any discomfort.

How long do lip fillers last?

Lip fillers are not permanent. While HA fillers can last anywhere from six months to a year, the duration may vary depending on factors such as the type of filler used, your body’s metabolism, and how quickly the filler is broken down over time.

While lip fillers can enhance the appearance of your lips and boost your confidence, it’s essential to have realistic expectations! Communicate openly with your Belo doctor about your goals and preferences, and be prepared for the fact that the results may not be exactly what you envisioned. Remember that everyone’s lips are unique, and what looks good on someone else may not necessarily suit your facial anatomy.
